Boys' Brigade 17th Penang Company
Basic and Advance NTS review.

This is the very first time I join BNTS as a camp helper. I want to thank Captain Ang and Captain Jonathan and of course God for giving me the opportunity. Being a helper also make you learn how to team up with helpers from other companies while preparing for the camp. Seeing the BNTS participants took me down memory lane. I was once in their shoes, persevering throughout the camp, trying hard to stay awake, surviving hundreds of star jumps. Both either basic or advance NTS teaches us courses that we can apply in our own company. NTS is a very good camp to train up leaders in Boys' Brigade. Great leaders are made, not born. Once again I am very thankful to be able to participate in BNTS as a helper. I wish to participate next year to learn even more things. We can never stop learning.
Corporal Derrick Chin said;
This is my third time join BNTS as a camp helper, every year sure got new things to let me learn. This year got a lot of new face camp helpers from each company. In BNTS history, just Corporal or above and after SPM member can join as camp helpers, this year is special that BNTS allow Lance Corporal to join. This year, I meet a lot of NCOs that from different company, when work with them, I can learn a lot of things. Communication and working with them is updated me to higher level and learn their experience.
Corporal Jacky Tan said;
Firstly, I want to thank God that gave me a chance to be a helper in BNTS. And God also gave us a nice whether during that 3 days. This time I learnt a lot of things as a helper. I also knew many friends through BNTS. Most of them are friendly and we all had a good teamwork at there. When I need any helps, they sure will give me a help. Look at those campers were so tired and suffer, sometimes I really wants to help them. But I couldn’t, because this was a training camp. Anyway, I really enjoyed myself very much in the camp and I’m looking forward for the next year :D
Lance Corporal Cheah Yixian said;
ANTS; the strict-est camp that I had ever been. For me myself with bad stamina, BNTS was tired enough to finish those starjumps and punishments but after ANTS, only I realised that BNTS was actually so easy. First day the registration not even started then we have to run 2 rounds of parade ground because that we didn’t discipline ourselves properly. That was okay until the passing-waterbottle time, we passed bottle got like 15 times + maybe? Even the BNTS-ers finished their opening ceremony and also their classes and yet we were still passing. And through that, I had learnt that we should have always set our target before doing something and of course with cooperation with your team members. The memorable part was the second day, the so-called-extra-activities-day, we got like 3000+ starjumps and also 3000+ rounds to run at the parade ground, and guess what. We, all the ANT-ers negotiated with Sir Loh from 3000+ starjumps to 400 starjumps and no more of running parade ground . That was the best part. Of course, include the classes, learnt a lot of things that as a leader and daily life we should apply it and also not forgetting those awesome friends and classmates that I’ve met! Last day not much of things happened, of course very happy but sad because it was about to end. Lastly Thank to our Father Lord, that guided the whole camp smoothly , gave us strength to finished it and too everyone safe! Praise the Lord! Well, the phrase that remind me of this camp is , belum cuba, belum tau. It started with one of us and Sir Loh keep on using that to us. Seriously belum cuba belum tau , so mesti cuba only tau =) To me, really really never give up until the end, then it will be sucessed.
* Never give up! Shine for 17th penang company!

Lance Corporal Lee Su Keat said;
在ANTS,我学到了'SMART A',这可帮助我设定目标.SMART A
就是PECIFIC,EASURABLE,CHIEVEBLE,ELEVANT,IMETABLED,GREED.

Corporal Chin Wen Huey;
Corporal Bernice Tan;
Of course first I am going to thank the Lord our God for giving me a chance to join this trip. This trip to Langkawi is the very first trip that I went with my BB family where none of us had to 'work', just fun and laughter. It really touches my heart how 16 people who are NOT blood related can get along so well under one roof. Amazing? Indeed. During the trip, I get to know more about my family members. Who's the shopaholic, who's the one who will go straight to the food stall in a night market, who snores, who uses a Winnie the Pooh towel for shower. Despite all that we still had a splendid time together. I love my BB family where we all serve the same purposes and the same Father.
Corporal Jacky Tan ;
Firstly I wanna thank God because He gave us a memorable trip in this time. .During the trip, there is only one time raining. And lucky our room got air-cond, if not I can’t imagine how are eight peoples squeezing in a room. .Haha. . It is my first time vacation with friends without my family :) Secondly, I want to thank to my lovely officers because they had given me a surprise, that is promotion during trip. .I was promoted to Corporal :) Aww, for me, it is really meaningful and very touching :P I promised God that I’ll work harder in future. You guys gonna work harder together with me too. By the way, I enjoyed the trip so much and I’m looking forward to it in next year too =] Lance Corporal Cheah Yixian; Erm erm from the Langkawi trip, I can say, It was super superrrrr funnnnn! :D everything but not the food. I was like very long time didn’t sit plane and this time, I get to sit again . feeling really nice, especially with company people all and of course, with the surprise birthday celebration with Jayden and madam. Very memorable moments . And and, not only for play la, got learnt things one kay. I had finally knew the Mahsuri’s story with details, hah cause I only know the story in blur case during primary time. Besides, the process is much more important than playing over there. All the fun we had together, is like, so many people lived in one house and have to wait for each other for the bathrooms, have lunch dinner, shopping together, hanging and playing around and so on. Super enjoyed for the trip , Thank God for providing us a blessed trip and guided us all along the way and, thanks to our 17th Penang Company :) Lastly, not forgetting to thanks David Sir and Jon Sir too for bringing us around the town and take care us.
Lance Corporal How Gen Shen;
At first, I want to thank 17th penang company for giving us this chance to Langkawi. I also wanted to thank Pastor Saw for being the driver like a tourist guide in Langkawi and took us to many wonderful places. And thank God for being with us all the time and kept us from the troubles and accidents, especially on the airplane. And God had also healed and be with Jayden when he was sick. At this trip, we went to all places of Langkawi. Although the places of tourism was not very interested but we all had enjoy all the time and I’m so appreciate the time that we spent together. We ate, enjoy, laugh and slept together. We also went to many shopping mall to buy chocolates, cause the chocolates there are cheaper and tax free. And I bought many chocolates for my family and friends. And we went to some natural places such as beaches and waterfall and we experienced the wonderful nature that God has created. The beach were clean and the water from the hill tops are cold and fresh. By the way, we went to a special beach that have black colour sands. Its so amazing.
Again. I wanted to say thank you to 17th penang for giving this opportunity to all NCO’s and thank all Sirs and madam for accompany us. And lastly I wanted to give all the praise and honour to our father in the heaven.
Lance Corporal Goh He Mi;
Labels: Reviews, Updates

I Guess that's ALL for the reviews for our X-Army Recruitment Camp. NO wait! There's Still ONE Last Post. Yes, the Third Post which is the review from our X-Army Recruitment Camp's very own Chairman!
THIRD POST; Chairman
Sergeant Teh Wei Huai said; -

Recruitment Camp reviews; Post 2
Saturday, November 20 / 10:06 PM ?
Hello readers! Have you check out our Lance corporal's reviews in the first post? If you haven't, it's on the sidebar. Well this is another update, which is the second post.
SECOND POST; CORPORALS and SQUAD LEADERS
Corporal Bernice Tan said;-
First, I would like to thank every single one who has contributed to this camp including the campers, without of them; this recruitment camp would not be successful. THANK YOU. I myself have also learned a lot from this camp. Like the idiom ‘Two heads is better than one’, which means when two people work together more things get accomplished. In Boys’ Brigade, there is no such thing as an ‘I’ but a ‘We’. No one should be handling projects by themselves, but one also needs another person in order to make the project successful. Whereas this camp, helped me to understand the real meaning of teamwork. Not just that, I have also learn not to look down at people who are younger than we are. In this camp, most of the campers are aged 10 to 15 who are younger than I am. It is amazing how much a 10 year old can contribute to his/her team in the camp. This can be found in bible; do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. 1Timothy 4:12
Corporal Chin Wen Huey said;-
Lance Corporal Cheah Yixian said;-
Private Aaron Khaw said;-
First of all, shalom to everyone, may God be with you. X-Army Camp last for 3 days and 2 nights. It was a fun, interesting and exciting camp. I enjoyed this camp very much and learnt many things that are useful in life. For example, I learnt how to become a good leader that can lead a good team. Learning leadership is very important to me as I maybe a future leader in this country. Further more, I learnt about sharing with each other which I did not done that before participating the camp. Well, “no pain, no gain”, being a leader is very difficult and disgusting, you need to serve your team members well. You need to show good examples that can glorified God. With those qualities, they will gradually believe that God is real and He is the savior of all. Besides, I learnt how to take care of myself when my parents are gone ( back to heaven). This was really, extremely important as we will one day grow up and face difficulties. We will need to solve it ourselves without the help of our parents. Well, I guess it is the time we said goodbye, I am stopping here right now. I am looking forward to the camp next year. Make It More Interesting and Exciting! And finally GOD BLESS YOU!
Private Jackson Tan said;-
I'm so happy during this camp,i also make a lot friend over there.At there I learn a lot of thing,like teamwork,how to see a compass and many!I miss all my friend after this camp.I very love this camp,and hope next time can be excited!

Recruitment Camp reviews; Post 1
Monday, November 15 / 8:51 PM ?
Hello hello people! As all of you all know, in September, our company organised the X-Army Recruitment Camp. So we've collected reviews from the committee members to the sqaud leaders. The reviews will be divided into 3 posts.
First post: Lance Coporals
Second post: Coporals
Third post: Squad leaders & Chairman
FIRST POST; Lance Coporals
Lance Coporal Goh He Mi said;-
In September 9, 2010, I participated in a camp sponsored by 17th Penang Boys Brigade of three days and two nights camp. In this camp, I was a camp helper.In this camp, I learned many things. Must do their own thing, must have a sense of responsibility. In addition, there are many in this camp will be fourth and fifth graders to participate. Therefore, we must communicate more with them to better understand them.
I think that, although the camp will be very hard but also very tired, but we must persevere. We spent a lot of those campers the difficulties faced with the problem, but also we had a good time. In this camp, everyone can learn together, such as cooperation. We also play games.I also learned a lesson, how good a team to lead and learn how to overcome difficulties. We still know a lot of friends.If you have a chance, I will again participate in such a similar camp.
Lance Coporal How Gen Shen said ;-
Lance Coporal Jacky Tan said;-
Although this is my first time to cook for so many campers and committee to eat but I still feel very happy although it is very tired but I learnt alot of things through it. I learn how to communicate with all the campers and learn to be patient while teaching them how to cook. Haha,because I know some of them really don't have idea on cooking. But,at last. .they had improved. .thanks God although I lost my voice during the camp,but I still very happy. and I know that friends are really important for all of us. .like on the first day of camp,I sicked already. but thanks God he gave me a lots of friends that care and concern for me. .so that I can recover very fast :D
Hope you all wont forget this memorable camp =)
Lance Coporal Lee Su Keat said;-
That's all. STAY TUNED to our blog for the 2nd and 3rd post if you want to read reviews from the squad leaders and the Chairman of the X-Army Recruitment Camp! Don't miss it (: Labels: Reviews

Wednesday, March 24 / 11:16 PM ?
Private Cheah Yixian said- I heard from alot people that BNTS is a quite suffer training camp. After I went, i agreed with them, it was suffered but very fun. I get to know alot new friends from different schools, different companies and even my own school peoples. The camp trained us to be more independence , be more responsible and learnt about leadership. The best part that i feel was the practical 2 although we get dirty and wet during that :)ANTS participants' reviews Lance Corporal Jacky Tan said- After I went for ANTS, Had learnt many things from there. There is one most important thing that I had learnt at ANTS is the SMART-A. S for Specific, M for Measurable, A for Achievable, R for Relevant, T for Timetabled and A for Agreed. I think as a leader,we must have our own target. Of course, our target cannot too far away from our real life. So, we must apply SMART-A into our target. Although I had failed my ANTS, but I'll not give up so easily. Because my aim is to pass on this year. So I'll start to plan and set my target so that I can pass ANTS for sure~~~Lance Corporal Bernice Tan stated- To me, weeks before I was already ready for ANTS, I've packed everything ready and practised my star jumps. When it's the first day of the training camp, I was very excited and couldn't wait to arrive there at the venue. The first day was okay, met a lot of new amazing friends and officers of course. Second day was pure torture. We ran 100 rounds on the football field but not just that, we still have 4000++ star jumps to finish. Fortunately, we as a team managed to negotiate from 4000++ star jumps to 500star jumps. Awesome ay? Like what Captain Loh Pau Joo said those aren't punishments, they are "extra activities". Well I pretty much enjoyed during our "extra activities"session. I still remember all of us were so exhausted and sleepy while waiting for others to negotiate with Captain Loh, so some fell asleep on the padang kawat including me. I was so sleepy until I felt flat on the tar road. Sure people behind me was laughing out loud but I was too blur to even realise I fell down. The third day was the happiest and somehow saddest day of the camp one, because we're going home! two, because we're gonna miss each other A LOT. Well it's all over now oh thank God. Now that I think back, I wished I could stay there longer.I really miss all those insanely awesome people I met there. Lord, thank You for everything that you've planned for me♥BNTS helpers' reviewsSergeant Teh Wei Huai stated- 感谢主,让我能够有机会当上BNTS的Helper。

Boys' Brigade History
The first Boys' Brigade company was set up by Sir William Alexander Smith on 4 October, 1883, at Free Church Mission Hall, North Woodside Road, Glasgow, Scotland, to develop "Christian manliness" by the use of a semi-military discipline and order, gymnastics, summer camps, and religious services and classes.
In the years following the establishment of the 1st Glasgow company, others were rapidly formed throughout Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom leading to a movement comprising thousands of boys.
The Boys Brigade movement in Wales was founded by George Phillip Reynolds in 1887 at Havelock Sreet Presbyterian Church, Newport, Monmouthshire.
By the early 20th century there were about 2,200 companies connected with different churches throughout the United Kingdom, the British Empire, and the United States, with 10,000 officers and 160,000 boys.
Each company is normally affiliated to a battalion encompassing several nearby companies, which in turn are organized at a district and then national level, although in Scotland each company is attached to a local district, which is attached to a battalion.
Companies are named in the form "2nd Springfield", indicating the second company to have been established in or around Springfield; it should be noted that where companies have closed, numbers are not normally reallocated, so it is quite normal to find a "2nd" but no "1st" company.
Initally, a simple rosette was worn as an identifying uniform, shortly being replaced by the simple use of a belt, haversack, and pillbox cap (a popular military cap of the day) worn over the boys' everyday clothing.
The pillbox cap was used into the 1960s, long after it had fallen out of use in the British Army, when it was replaced with a field cap.
The movement also pioneered camping for leisure in Britain, previously rarely used outside the military. Early admirers of the Brigade included Robert Baden-Powell who as Vice President of the Boys' Brigade used it alongside initiatives in schools, particularly Eton, to promote the idea of scouting and outdoor pursuits based on those of the military for boys.
At the time, he did not originally intend that any individual organization would later arise from this aim in the form of the various Boy Scouts movements.
Early examples of Scouting were seen in Boys' Brigade Scouting awards and even specialised Boys' Brigade Scout sections who wore a blue uniform with shorts and the distinctive Smokey Bear hat traditionally identified with Scouts, and still worn today by drill sergeants in the United States Army.
However, nowadays there is a certain friendly rivalry between the two groups.
The Boys' Life Brigade was one of many similar movements formed by the Boys' Brigade's influence, sometimes along denominational or religious lines, including the Church Lads' Brigade, the Jewish Lads' Brigade, or the Catholic Boys' Brigade.
The merger also prompted the abandonment of dummy drill rifles that had been used in The Boys' Brigade, due to the Life Brigade's objection to use of weapons or their representations. For some time afterwards, the section covering members aged 8–12 years was known as Life Boys, before being restyled as the Junior section.
A popular hymn in the BB containing its motto and obvious reference to its emblem is "Will Your Anchor Hold" by Priscilla Owens, usually sung at displays and church services. Note, however, that this is not the official Boys' Brigade song. The official song for the Boy's Brigade is 'Underneath the banner'.

Basic and Advance NTS review.
Friday, April 1 / 10:26 PM ?
Corporal Bernice Tan said;
This is the very first time I join BNTS as a camp helper.
Corporal Derrick Chin said;
This is my third time join BNTS as a camp helper, every year sure got new things to let me learn.
Corporal Jacky Tan said;
Firstly, I want to thank God that gave me a chance to be a helper in BNTS.
Lance Corporal Cheah Yixian said;
ANTS; the strict-est camp that I had ever been.

在ANTS,我学到了'SMART A',这可帮助我设定目标.SMART A
就是PECIFIC,EASURABLE,CHIEVEBLE,ELEVANT,IMETABLED,GREED.

Corporal Chin Wen Huey;
Corporal Bernice Tan;
Corporal Jacky Tan ;
Lance Corporal How Gen Shen;
Lance Corporal Goh He Mi;
Labels: Reviews, Updates
Recruitment Camp reviews; Post 3
Monday, November 29 / 12:48 AM ?

That's all. STAY TUNED to our blog for the 2nd and 3rd post if you want to read reviews from the squad leaders and the Chairman of the X-Army Recruitment Camp! Don't miss it (: Labels: Reviews
